On the Turntable - The Chieftans and Alison Krauss

I love the Chieftans and Alison Krauss...so this is a special mix. It's amazing how many versions there are of this song. Some of the lyric variations can be found here. It's a tragedy about a man who mistakes his true love for a swan while hunting.

I just started getting into Johnny A. I've posted Glenn Campbell's version (which I also like very much) before...BUT the guitar player in me enjoys this one immensely. I recommend the album Sometime Tuesday Morning. It has this song among others like a really great version of Walk Don't Run.

On the Turntable - Creed

As a guitar player one thing I found intriguing about Creed was that their guitar player Mark Tremonti played so many of their songs in a drop D tuning. For e.g. this song and My Sacrifice. The guitar he plays is a Paul Reed Smith. They developed a Tremonti and a Tremonti II model. My dream guitar is a Paul Reed Smith CE 24. It has 2 octaves, hence the 24. (24 frets). The worship band I was a part of in San Diego played several of Creed's songs including this one for morning worship.

This is a remake of a song by the La's. The La's version was part of the 'So I Married an Axe Murderer' soundtrack, one of my favorite movies. But I digress...I was heartbroken when they broke up. I have read that they may be getting back together.

One of the most overlooked bands - The Call is one of my favorites. This video isn't very good. The lead singer Micheal Been is a Christian and often does concerts at venues such as Cornerstone in Illinois. Here's my favorite lyric from this song:

Louis Prima was probably best known for works like Sing Sing Sing and his voice over in The Jungle Book, his work was also remade by the likes of David Lee Roth.
