- jizya (Arabic): This is the poll tribute tax that infidels must pay for being allowed to live in the Islamic state (such infidels are called dhimmis*). It is often paid in a humiliating manner, with the Jew or Christian being made to enter the tax collector's office with eyes to the ground, and then being struck in the face or on the back of the neck while paying.
