  1.
He sounds sorta like the singer from OMD.
    I like the 77's.

Good song, ElBro. I hadn't heard this one.

  2. The singer is Michael Roe...he has some solo stuff too (if you don't know they are a Christian band)

youtube has a fair amount of 77s selections if you're interested

one of my favorites is Don't This Way

    Imagine
    All those years together
As a blackbird with no song to sing
    Imagine
    Throwing it to the air
But it falls from broken wings

Don't leave this way, so many words unsaid
Don't lie this way, stretched straight from
    Feet to head

    Imagine
    The sky is pouring down
On the back of all those years
    Imagine
That bird helpless on the ground
Shot down by all those tears

Don't leave this way, so many words unsaid
Don't lie this way, stretched straight from
    Feet to head
Don't look this way, closed eyes, unmoving lips
Don't feel this way, cold hands and fingertips

  3. the 77's epitomize the axiom laid down by the late Larry Norman

too Christian for radio and too radio for Christians

  4. actually the quote is 'too Christian for radio and too radio for the church'

  6. Super lyrics..I Googled them. I totally couldn't hear them correctly the first time because, and from what I heard, I thought you were having problems with Mrs. Elbro! (Whew! should have known better!) I don't know what words stuck out clearly enough that I thought THAT (Mr. Z has the radio on, so I couldn't really hear...as if you need to know all this..sorry!)

I love the DON'T LEAVE THIS WAY lyrics..will send you a poem I wrote years ago that are so like them. (yes, I'll send them to you, too, Pinkster!)
Thanks, Elbro...not sure I know 77s. Are they contemporary or ...?

  7. First time hearing them. It's a little too radio for me... ;-)

  8. they were more an 80's band Z but on Amazon there CD sets are going for as much as $500. They have a cult following among Christians and some non-Christians. As I said they seem to epitomize the Norman axiom.

  9. they do still perform at Christian festivals...like Cornerstone.

  11. The lyrics are awesome though:

77's This is the Way Love Is

When I gave up, you held up
When I ran out, you filled me up
When I kept runnin', you kept up
When I let you down you lifted me up

This is the way love is

When I couldn't find the words, you understood
When I didn't find the time, you were in no hurry
When I wouldn't make ends meet, you tied them together
When I cheated you kept to the rules

Well, this is the way love is
This is the way love is
    When it's a one-sided double-minded mirror with no reflection

When I was keepin' it in, you were givin' out
When I was losin' out, you'd let me come back
When I was holdin' back, you were holdin' on
When I was losin' my cool you were keepin' your love warm

Well, this is the way love is
This is the way love is
    When it's a one-sided double-minded mirror with no reflection

When I kept it all to myself like a miser holds on to his last dime
When I closed up myself like a desperate hand on a lifeline
Well I was bled, I was dried, all wrapped up in my pride
This is the way it is when you're on the wrong side

Well, this is the way love is
This is the way love is
    When it's a one-sided double-minded mirror with no reflection

  12. EB, you'd be so pissed with me if you knew some of the albums and 45s I got rid of, recently. I even had an old 78 set of Benny Goodman. One of the 4 or 5 albums was cracked. Those weren't the vinyl days. About the only thing I kept was a Beatles Second album.

  13. oh yeah Burnsy I just bought a double CD of Benny Goodman and a double of Glenn Miller.

FJ...they are great lyrics. The one sided selfish kind of love eh.

  14. I haven't heard the 77's in a LONG time. Thanks, Elbro.

  15. Yeah, I have one 77's cd somewhere packed away.

I can see how they'd be a little too cool for the church 'subculture'.
Or at least what it was in the 80's.

The music scene has gotten SO much better, wider, though.
    Thank goodness!
