I'm not a believer in not voting, writing in for a loser or voting for Barr who is a sure loser. I guess I figure that I earn my right to complain by sometimes voting for the lesser of "the two evils".

The very reason for this post and others that I will be making is that I'm pissed off at our legislators. They're more concerned about a baseball player taking steroids than getting comprehensive energy legislation, lifting the ban on drilling etc. I'm sick of it and I'm not suffering nearly as much as most. I lack for nothing, but this s*it has to stop.
I'm interested in discussing with others a call for term limits on those who serve in the Congress...no more Ted Kennedy's or Strom Thurmonds. The b*stards should not be allowed to sit in those hallowed halls and do something as stupid as grill Roger Clemens on his steroid use.

Apparently Obama is on the verge of changing his mind on the war. In other words his view will mimic that of McCains.
Comment by Elmers Brother— 2008/06/30 @ 02:21 PM — (Reply)
One of the things I like about Obama is his deliberateness and willingness to move on from a preconceived idea when he acquires more information.
It is going to be interesting exactly how Presidential he will appear on the world wide tour? McCain sure didn't look Presidential wearing the old man shades and being corrected constantly by Joe Liebermann.
Comment by Ed— 2008/06/30 @ 02:46 PM — (Reply)
Is it really about looks? Surely not. Integrity is more important than charisma....Bill Clinton ring a bell?
Comment by Pinky— 2008/06/30 @ 04:24 PM — (Reply)
His looks? You do realize that McCain can't lift his arms above his head because of the torture he received in Vietnam?
Taxes are going to be raised anyway? Hold on.
McCain would make the Bush tax cuts permanent instead of letting them expire, he would eliminate the Alternative Minimum Tax so as to assist the middle-class, he would double the personal exemption for dependents, reduce the corporate tax rate, and offer a new research and development tax credit. At the same time, he pledges to eliminate pork-barrel spending, freeze nondefense discretionary spending for a year or more, and reduce Medicare growth. McCain is also opposed to extravagant salaries and severance deals of corporate CEOs.
alternative fuel
McCain is proposing 45 new nuclear reactors by 2030, in order to fight climate change and establish U.S. energy independence.

I'm stunned at Ed. totally stunned, and it makes me see that we could lose this great country to a type of America we won't recognize and there are some people I thought were wise and experienced who don't see it.
Sorry, Ed...you blew my mind.
I can't even imagine voting for someone who's said what Obama's said. I'm bereft.
I can't wrap my brain around having a president on a learning curve AND that the Democrats are complimenting him for "learning!" when it's PRESIDENT we're talking about, not law student or car mechanic!

One of my friends said this:
"Hope must have a SOURCE!" The SOURCE of Obama's CHANGE is positively horrifying: Marxism, Socialism, Anger, personal racial confusion and resentment of his own relatives......the HOPE and CHANGE it creates is ominous.

I have no disagreement with your well researched analysis of Obama's record. What I disagree with is the notion that things will be any different with McCain than they are now.
Like I said before...it's a good thing for young people to be interested in government. We have been going down a path of losing our position of world leadership in terms of treasure, power, respect and the moral high ground.
My hope is that there will be an energy program with the same dream as the space program created by JFK (not a man of huge experience as I recall). The space program achieved will it aspired to. I don't see a real change in the reality of energy under McCain. I think all economics is going to flow from energy as time goes on.
It's time for high hopes and big dreams, not time for the status quo.
You know what McCain is going to do and can only hope for better than the status quo by supporting Obama.
As you all know I have voted for every Republican Presidential candidate since I voted for Nixon in 1972 so rest assured that my decision has not come lightly. This is not an election where there is a bad guy (now that Hillary is roadkill).
I have seen McCain and Obama extremely up close and personal and both are decent intelligent men. The issue in this election is the possibility of positive change and only one of the candidates may facilitate it. I am looking for a better world for my children. Obama is the best chance for that.
