Cinderella
Maybe you've sensed it in your own life. My youngest daughter is chomping at the bit. Don't get me wrong I find some satisfaction in knowing she wants to be independent and on her own; she has the skills, determination and the heart.
...I still feel a sense of loss. It went too fast and I missed some of it.
She spins and she sways
To whatever song plays
Without a care in the world
And I'm sitting here wearing
The weight of the world on my shoulders
It's been a long day
And there's still work to do
She's pulling at me
Saying "Dad, I need you
There's a ball at the castle
And I've been invited
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone...
She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of the dress
She says, "Dad, the prom is just one week away
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone
She will be gone
Well, she came home today with a ring on her hand
Just glowing and telling us all they had planned
She says, "Dad, the wedding's still six months away
But I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

Yesterday my daughter was 7-years-old. Today, she's 34. I can't believe how fast or unfair time is . . .

Figured I'd add a little to your melancholy and reflect a little more upon my own.

WHAT?!? How THAT get there? Here's the REAL link.
Now, was that totally GAY, or what? That's what I get for pandering to nanc and tmw at Kelly's.
No really, I HATE men in kilts.
I'm straight I tell ya!
Oh, what's the use...
I hate Bloghi!
seaman. I guess it could have been worse.

Chapman looks like a young Glen Campbell, think?

z - It's I who is lucky...she's a great child and a credit to her mother and the Lord
bwahahaa FJ...good one...ridin' with the likes of tmw and nanc can leave one a little confused and he does remind me of Glen Campbell

ElBro, a friend of mine recently emailed me these lyrics...and I couldn't force myself to finish reading them. I'm in total denial...and my oldest is 8.
I'm so aware of how fast it's flying by.
Your kids are so blessed, and trust me, the father/daughter relationship only gets better with time. You've got so many sweet memories yet to come.

Sorry, Elbro. I can't believe that my girls are starting school this year and I can only imagine how hard it is to see your girl spreading her wings to take flight.

although i sensed your ennui slower than usual (drug enhanced) - you know that i know that you know as soon as they're born, we must begin letting them go.
of course, they lure us in with the "i'm never leaving you!" from the time they can speak - and probably believe it until they know it's just about time for you and mom to buy a harley and get on with your lives...
yup - think HARLEY...our adopted son and his wife came by today on his new fatboy - he's saving his last one for us when our babies are gone. they leave. harsh but true.
be very thankful she has a sensible GODfearing head on her lovely shoulders. time to give her fully to God.

It does fly by SO FAST!
Just think though... Before you know it you'll have grandchildren to spoil!

The other day I took my 10 year old niece to the pool and of course she instantly started playing with her buddies (half of them boys). I watched them for awhile and noticed the boys gave her the most attention. Wondered what happened to the little girl who always wanted me "to catch me" when she dove in.

ElBro,
I got over my fear and I listened to this song. Now I'm blue right along with you and FJ. Great. :-)
Can I add a little perspective? Just a little? Just kiss her cheek. It's THERE. Ya know? I miss my girl. ;-)
And I'll say it again, Nanc is wise on this one.
(ducking from her cyber tomatoes)
....and I'm already setting aside a box of grandbaby toys....

Sorry Pinky - nanc will only throw tomatoes at you (or worse) if you say she's nice....I know what she said is true
and Mrs. EB and I are looking forward to an empty nest...it just feels like the time is slipping away...and my work schedule makes it difficult to spend as much time with her as I like

It's just a matter of time till you cash in your 'man card' and cry as you give her away. Make sure she invites me to the wedding whenever that time comes. I'll catch that moment on film.

Like Mustang said time is unfair. Our children grow up too soon. I cannot believe my youngest son will be ten on the 30th of this month. Sigh..........
Just always say I love you to your kids no matter how young or old they are. That is the most important thing we all can do as parents.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I appreciated your thoughts.
