On the Turntable - Louis Prima
Louis Prima was probably best known for works like Sing Sing Sing and his voice over in The Jungle Book, his work was also remade by the likes of David Lee Roth.
from Wikipedia:
Louis Prima (December 7, 1910[1] – August 24, 1978) was an Italian-American entertainer, singer, actor, songwriter, and trumpeter. He was referred to as the King of the Swingers. Prima rode the musical trends of his time, starting with his seven-piece New Orleans style jazz band in the 1920s, then successively leading a Swing combo in the 1930s, a Big Band in the 1940s, a Vegas lounge act in the 1950s, and a pop-rock go-go band in the 1960s. In each of his musical endeavors, he incorporated his exuberant personality into his act.

Even Elvis imitated Prima:
Elvis Presley had the country "All Shook Up" and when asked where he got the wiggle, he replied, "From Louis Prima, of course.

Elbro! Remember how I feel about most mariachi music? Well, you did it again! But, I am a HUMONGOUS Keely Smith fan!
I may just send you a couple Prima/Smith CD's I bought. you can't hear her enough!! (Smile) Which, in my never to be humble music opinion, was the problem. :-)
But, I've gotta admit this cut wasn't too bad..ya, I must admit.

you know exactly what I mean about Prima if I say it's like mariachi music to me.
Let me say it more directly: Keely would have gone further without him. (okay...I'm ducking now)
Give me Dick Haymes.

Well, I only compared Prima to Mariachi music because Elbro knows I"m not a fan of mariachi music. Now y'all know I'm not a Prima fan.
Now, I'll REALLY tick you all off. I think Keely would have gone farther without him!!!! (i'm ducking..)
Give me Dick Haymes.
I WILL, however, admit the cut you have here isn't bad. But FJ... "holds up"? Did you see that toe tapping thing his backup singers are doing? ahem. Maybe it's the precurser of those Temps and 4 Tops steps, remember?

That holds up surprisingly well after all these years.

Z, what's not to love?

"What's not to love?" REALLY fair question, Elbro.
And I probably sound harder than I ought to be on Prima.
Here's the deal...I'm a 'girl singer', right? And I ADORE Keely Smith's style/voice, etc. AND, I don't adore him.
So, I've often thought (and I'm not alone) that she could have gone farther without Prima. She ended up doing lounge shows with him in Vegas. That's where he ended his career, too. Like "B movies".
That's all...he's not so bad... she was fantastic.
