Locked Out
In light of the recent ruling in California, I suggest the parents form a union to protect their kids from some of the public schools there.
You can sign a petition here to depublish the California court case.
You'll also find more here concerning teachers unions.
and surprise surprise...guess which political party gets more money from the CA teachers unions?
UPDATE:
From the HSLDA E-lert Service...

An update to HSLDA Members and Friends on the California Court of
Appeal Decision on Homeschooling:
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell comes to the
defense of homeschool families. "The California Department of
Education policy will not change in any way as a result of this
ruling. Parents still have the right to homeschool in this state," he
said.
After the Court of Appeal for the Second Appellate District in Los
Angeles ruled on February 28 that parents had to be credentialed
teachers to educate their own children the statement from O'Connell is
encouraging news for the homeschool community.
"O'Connell has it right," said Michael Farris, Chairman of HSLDA. "But
the court decision must still be overturned before homeschool freedom
can be restored in California."
The Court of Appeal ruling shocked the homeschool community because in
one sweeping decision it effectively outlawed homeschooling.
"We hope the statement from O'Connell puts the brakes on any
enforcement action," said Farris.
HSLDA will be pursuing several legal options, including seeking review
by the California Supreme Court and petitioning the same court to
depublish the opinion in order to return California to being a state
where a family can legally homeschool in California without fear.
"We have just started the legal battle to restore homeschool freedom
in California," said Farris.

I live here and have never heard a thing about it. WHY? Because the good guys don't get the media attention.
This shows that even some kids want better..sadly, many don't...and, more sadly, all kids don't have parents like these kids do. The parents are a big part of this problem and the solution and many just don't care.
I sure hope this catches on..you could see the corruption in those union people; they've got it ALL so wrong. As the video says "it should be about the KIDS, not the school".

One impression I got when I lived in California was that the conservatives therein remained quiet, intimidated by the liberal majority, while the lefties screamed and bullied and achieved their goals.
In order to get the grease, the wheels on the right side of the vehicle need to squeak louder than those on the left side of it.
The longer this takes to finally happen, the farther left the state will go.
Granted, there seems to be a liberal majority there, but it all boils down to participation. People on both sides of the aisle are proportionately active in political affairs, the key is for more conservatives to become aggressive in politics outside the polls, to demonstrate that they are more than just a dissenting voter base in a left-dominated state.

Soon the people's republic of Kalifornia will have the perfect socialist utopia, with the rich Democratiburo pols at the top and the hordes of Spanish-speaking Mexican serf-slaves at the bottom. Granted there won't be any industry except what existed when everyone else left, and Silicon Valley is just something for the history books, and there's a few nuts still up in the hills doing their own thing, but everyone's happy, right? Right?

Riff...there'll be more
InRussetshadows - it does appear to be incremental but as Z says homeschooling parents (of which I am one) are not likely to take these type of things laying down...we have representation (HSLDA) and they are good at it
