  15. I guess fj you could say that I miss my calling - I liked my job more than I disliked it...it's not easy to find another calling

Comment by elmers brother— 2008/01/12 @ 07:47 PM — (Reply)

  16. Well maybe you need to find a way of pursuing it that's more compatible with your responsibilities. I learned more about the US Navy and its' capabilities working for a defense contractor than I ever knew while I was in the Reserves. And if I ever got "called up", I'd be a tend times more qualified now then I was then. I learned both what my systems could do AND what theirs were capable of. It was almost like eight years at the Naval Postgraduate School.

  17. I wish I could. I started out with a contractor when I first retired...doing the same job I had in the Navy as a Field Engineer and consultant.

I worked in one state and commuted to my family in another on the weekends. I resigned because I hadn't retired so that I could be away again.

but I still have the yearning and the calling

    On the Sea
    by John Keats

    It keeps eternal whisperings around
Desolate shores, and with its mighty swell
Gluts twice ten thousand caverns, till the spell
Of Hecate leaves them their old shadowy sound.
Often 'tis in such gentle temper found,
That scarcely will the very smallest shell
Be moved for days from whence it sometime fell,
When last the winds of heaven were unbound.
Oh ye! who have your eye-balls vexed and tired,
    Feast them upon the wideness of the Sea;
Oh ye! whose ears are dinned with uproar rude,
Or fed too much with cloying melody, -
Sit ye near some old cavern's mouth, and brood
Until ye start, as if the sea-nymphs choired!
