that's right. You're not discussing the same Jesus, not the Jesus who is also God, part of the Trinity, the Jesus/God/Holy Spirit who, in the Old Testament, sent people to war when it was a righteous cause, like protecting those who love Him, and vanquishing their foes.

yes, I believe in a revengeful God. Absolutely. I also believe in context. We are also strongly reminded that our leaders are where they are at the right time. I struggle with it all, believe me. But, trust me, I don't believe in killing innocent children and I praise our military for having so well eliminated accidental killings. God? maybe. The Pentagon/Bush? certainly.

Romans 13 speaks of the government
13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
In Romans 13 the Bible describes the government as having the authority and the power (given by God) to carry the sword
From the Forerunner Commentary
The power they have must be submitted to and obeyed. In the general course of human affairs, rulers are not a terror to honest, quiet, and good subjects, but to evil-doers. Such is the power of sin and corruption, that many will be kept back from crimes only by the fear of punishment
Laws are stated and have penalties. Rulers enforce them, but that does not stop people from breaking them—in many cases with impunity—especially if they feel no government representative is watching them. The government's power lies largely in coercion, meaning forcible constraint or restraint, whether moral or physical. In other words, it is government by force.
For instance, most people flagrantly disobey the speed limit on freeways and interstates, especially when they are not crowded, until they spot a patrol car with a trooper or two in it. Suddenly, the speed limit becomes the norm until the trooper is again out of sight. That the law is on the books, prominently displayed and common knowledge are insufficient motivation for many people to obey.
But love toward God, the love of God, can motivate us to do what the law says to do but cannot motivate us to do. We can conclude that Paul claims that if one exercises God's love in paying his debt to man, he will keep the commandments.
We could also conclude that Paul says that if one does not break the commandments, he is acting out of love. This is the weaker of the two. Within this context, then, every phase, every facet of our responsibility to God and man, is covered if we make sure love has its place as the motivation for all we do.
If we really love another person, we cannot possibly injure him. Love would immediately stifle any thought that leads to adultery, murder, theft, or any form of covetousness because love cannot harm. Since love cannot break the laws designed to protect another, it is supreme in providing the right kind of persuasion.
These New Testament verses agree with Genesis 9 that human governmental authority derives from God. A purpose of human government is to keep chaos from developing. Paul does not specifically stipulate the extent of the wrath that human governments use to keep order, but his mention of "sword" indicates its use as an instrument of capital punishment.
Within God's purpose, "the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). A person practicing sin earns death by his conduct. A difference between this and capital punishment is that God executes directly. Although He has given governments the authority to take life to preserve order—in conjunction with the testimony of at least two witnesses—He has never extended the same right to an individual
As far as God talking to anyone? Do you pray Damjan? Do you read the scriptures?
Has God never used either to speak to you?
damjan last warning if you want to talk about this conspiracy tripe on your blog go right ahead....I dealt with a guy like you for a long time and frankly I'm not going to do it again
If you think Bush is the/an antichrist...write about it...but not here...I'm not in the mood....
I was in Iraq Damjan...the difference between us and the terrorists
they targeted innocent children and considered a success
we didn't target innocent children and if they were killed we considered it a failure, investigated it, held those responsible accountable (when necessary) and in some cases paid reparations
the Islamic terrorists are the ones you should be chasing
Now can you just thank those who have sacrificed

Damjan, it's best to read other news other than the Int'l Herald Tribune, it's owned by the New York Times. And don't watch Int'l CNN, they're both the far left news and it sounds like you're not thinking...Especially if you're in Slovenia, you ought to know some wars are worth fighting for.
As for oil and how the commander 'is sure that's what this is about', I for one would like us to SEE some of that oil. So far, nothing's coming out, and everyone on the planet knows that. Also, to protect the world's oil by taking much of it out of Saddam's hands is a good thing. GOod luck to you. You need to start thinking that there are always two sides to every story.

Luke 22
[35] And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.
[36] Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
[37] For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
[38] And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
Hmmmm, just before Jesus was crucified, he asked if HIS disciples were armed...seems to me that HE had no problem with weapons!
Try reading Revelation, after all, it is the Lamb who had been slain who opens the seals! And comes back with HIS garments dipped in blood, WHO slays with a 2 edged sword from HIS Mouth.
And if you truly believe that the newer testament is divorced from the older, you haven't read it word for word, go and do so! It isn't called JUDEO/CHRISTIAN for nothing!
The first advent, HE came as a servant, the second HE comes as Judge and Conqueror. Get used to it!
As for these brave souls, who loved their country enough to die for her, they are better men(and women)than most who live here! G*D bless them and their families!
