No Sense of Proportion

@ 11:28 AM (16 months, 15 days ago)

If only the MSM policed itself....you know like science....self correcting....like in the case of Piltdown man...it only took over 40 years to correct their mistake.

from Opinion Journal

Good news on the "surge" in Iraq: Between Valentine's Day and March 14, the number of U.S. servicemen killed there dropped by 24% from the previous four weeks. The New York Times, however, manages to present this as bad news:

The heightened American street presence may already have contributed to an increase in the percentage of American deaths that occur in Baghdad.

Over all, the number of American soldiers killed in Iraq from hostilities since Feb. 14, the start of the new Baghdad security plan, fell to 66, from 87 in the previous four weeks.

But with more soldiers in the capital on patrol and in the neighborhood garrisons, a higher proportion of the American deaths have occurred in Baghdad--36 percent after Feb. 14 compared with 24 percent in the previous four weeks. Also over the past four weeks, a higher proportion of military deaths from roadside bombs have occurred in Baghdad--45 percent compared with 39 percent.

Imagine if the total number of deaths had increased while the Baghdad proportion dropped. Can you imagine the Times even taking note of the latter, let alone reporting it above the former?

  4. No way will the MSM acknowledge that the troop surge could possibly be effective. They will spin the story every time!

  6. If Bush said the grass was green and the sky was blue, the NYT would run a front page opposition piece.

The MSM is actually mimicking science, which has turned into the Church of old... If you DARE to disagree with global warming, you are a heretic, a la Galileo.

  7. The Piltdown Man was one of the most famous anthropological frauds of all time.
If I remember correctly, it was a gorilla mandible attached to a human skull.
