Christian persecution in Indonesia

@ 05:43 AM (23 months, 16 days ago)

While I was in the Navy I was on a cruise in 2000 and we went to Surabaya Indonesia for an exercise. While getting off the ship one day a man came up to me in tears. He asked if I was a Christian, to which I replied yes.

He explained that he was as well and that he and his family had been undergoing terrible persecution. When I got home he asked, please tell the church in the US to pray for the Indonesian Christians. He told me of beatings, killings and kidnappings. I prayed with him and promised to tell my church.

Later an Indonesian man on the pier had a heart attack and our docs and corpsman performed CPR on him until the ambulance came. They rode with him to the hospital..where he died. Later I talked to the corpsman and he told me there were bodies everywhere at the hospital. When he asked what was going on he was told that they were Christians whose bodies were dumped at the hospital...some were bound, gagged etc. Indonesia is a terrible place to be a Christian.

One of the Islamist's stated goals is to completely eradicate Christianity, this despite the fact that Christianity is one of the five recognized religions in Indonesia and that religious freedom is guaranteed in their constitution. There are church burnings, beheadings, beatings and forced conversions.

If you haven't seen Brooke's post (there's a video) on the persecution in Indonesia read it now.

  1. EB- The sorrow I feel for the persecuted church, not to mention the admiration for their faithfulness, is only matched by my frustration and anger at the obstinancy of the church in the West! The Christians in China are praying for American christians to be persecuted to cleanse them of apathy, immaturity and heresy! I join them, not because I enjoy it, but hard times are coming and we in America are not ready! The steps toward persecution are being followed and the church just "doesn't get it"! I give warnings to people and they continue on their merry way, without a thought or a care. The enemy is at the gates and we as Americans are busy fiddling our thumbs! Nobody, or very few are getting serious with G*D! I see most churches are "Falling Away" and they think they are alright! :sigh:
Sorry, I'm just venting my frustrations!
    G*D bless and Maranatha!

  2. That's horrible - I'm sure there's a special blessing for martyrs in Heaven.

  3. Dugg-Yes, there is a very special reward for those who proclaim Christ even in their deaths! It is something that will be coming to a country near us, soon. Be prepared!

Hard to believe that such a thing is occurring in the 21st Century!

    Very moving post, EB.

  6. tmw - my in laws are in China "working" as we speak. They have a difficult time with the Church when they come home because they have seen persecution first hand.

  7. EB-I have some friends from my old church that had been in China, they had to leave because of her health, but they were in the know of persecutions! We are still praying for those who they had to leave behind! Plus AA, and the way things are going here in the states, we are going to experience it here. We need to be prepared, especially the real Christians, the "fallen away" will be on the side of the false prophet, they will be our worst enemies. Those who won't believe will end up "justifying" their betrayals!
I will be praying for them!

  8. We are SO fortunate to be Christians in the USA!!

The ironic thing is, Dugg, that these Christians, who were slaughtered for their faith, are TRUE martyrs, not the Islamofacists that blow up themselves and innocent civilians to curry Allah's favor!
