New York Train Tunnel Plot Compromised By NYT Leak

@ 02:25 PM (26 months, 2 days ago)

I am still wiping the newsprint off my *ss. Thanks NYT. This makes me sick.

from Pastorious at Infidel Bloggers Alliance

Apparently, that is the case. It seems the FBI had to close in on the Jihadis earlier than they normally would have as a result of the New York Time SWIFT program leak:

Two law enforcement sources told FOX News, however, that the main target was the underground PATH train system that connects New York and New Jersey. Other transport systems are said to have been considered by the plotters, but they showed the most interest in the PATH trains.

The planning was not far along, one U.S. official said, but authorities “take aspirations of that sort seriously.”

It is not clear whether this case was one of several our sources claim they discussed in general terms with the New York Times, and which Treasury and Justice told the Times would be endangered if it went public with the SWIFT program. It appears the arrest of the plotter in Lebanon took place before the SWIFT story was leaked.

But another DOJ source added something interesting to the mix:

“If you go back and look at some of our more successful anti-terrorism cases, they have focused on taking down entire networks. How do we do that? From the inside, peeling off a lead actor, turning him and using him to keep the plot moving forward so we can trace everyone else, the money, the accounts, the weapons dealers, everyone. I’ll just note that we weren’t able to do that with this case and leave it at that. We could have, but we weren’t able to. You’ll have to do the math for the Times.”

  1. The absolutely frightening thing about all this? Watch for the Left to hail Bill Keller as a new hero and groom him for public office. I think it's too late for him to challenge Hillary in her Senate race, but then again, they could always pull a Lautenberg.

  6. The NYT has endangered all of us. Concerns over national security should trump freedom of the press.

  7. No - freedom of press, and speech should trump anything the government is ever involved with.

  8. About most government doings, I agree. But not when top-secret information during wartime is involved. The leaks to the NYT involved top-secret info, as far as I know. Along with freedom comes responsibility. I think that the NYT betrayed that responsibility.

I agree that sometimes the line is a fine one.

do we need to do that?

  12. Dugg: With rights always come responsibilities! Our press is free, but they used to have the decorum and self-control to know WHEN to talk and when not to.

Now, the only thing that matters to the press is ratings and selling commercial spots, not that "we need to know."

  13. FREE
The most misconstrued and misappropriated word in the 'post-modern' (gag) west.
You are free to behave, to act appropriately, within consensus parameters. You are free to abide by rules and law, and to have recourse to those when threatened.
You are not free to endanger others. You are not free to exert your "rights" to imperil the freedom of others.
America.... you have traitors in your ranks.
You should avail yourself of some freedom,.... and jail them!
