Honor the Fallen - Craig Ivory

@ 04:56 PM (27 months, 19 days ago)
On March 26th, 2003, Craig Ivory, was among 1,000 paratroopers dropped into Northern Iraq where he spent five months supporting the field units as a medic.

His father recalled "I will never forget the time he told me about his exchange with an English-speaking Iraqi woman who pleaded with him: "Please don't go home. We need you to protect us." Craig consoled her and explained that while they have their own homes and one day would have to leave, "we're here for you now."

Tragically, in the extreme battlefield conditions, including 135 degree heat, Craig suffered a stroke and was transported to Germany where he died.

Craig was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and Bronze Star. The clinic he worked at in Kirkuk was named the Ivory Combat Clinic to honor him. Then his former staff sergeant wrote and published a memoir which featured a chapter devoted to Craig's story.
