"Amazing what a society can come up with when freedom is emphasized and religious fascism is renounced." -Clarity and Resolve

Here's some good news from Afghanistan and a weapons system in Iraq that is making a difference.

Firepower Forward has a post on the relief effort in Pakistan while Open Fire and Blackfive puts the 2,000th American casualty in perspective.

Blackfive also tells the story of a hero.

  1. "Without concern for his own life, my hero went back in to the burning vehicle to retrieve his friend".

    What an inspiring story.

It is true just how loosely the term "hero" is bandied around. Reading something like that makes me realise it.

  2. Amazing isn't it that some people without regard for themselves will literally "give until it hurts". I used to think the Lord didn't make men like that. Then I went to Iraq and I was proven wrong in spades. This generation like the one of my grandfather (WWII combat Navy vet) has taken on the challenge and I have never been prouder to be an American.

  3. Personal note...You left a link to my "Dogs of War--Part II" story. I've now posted an addendum to reflect the information about Jack. Thank you.

  8. As you can tell from my blog, I'm not the politically correct type. Sometimes I tell my more advanced piano pupils (the female ones), "You don't play like a girl. Good job!" By that I mean a compliment, "You have control of the instrument." I say similar things to my English composition students.

So...I actually take it as a oompliment that my writing style is not gender specific.

PS: I kept my gender a secret when I first entered the blogosphere and deliberately stayed away from a feminine format.
